“The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him... ” 2 Chronicles 16,9 (NLT) |
God is not indifferent to the state of our hearts. He knows when we seek Him wholeheartedly, halfheartedly or worse, with our hearts far from Him. God has always desired that we CHOOSE to love Him. He wants us to rely on Him, to depend on Him, to trust Him in every thing that concerns us. And because He is lavish in His love, He looks to “show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him” (2 Chronicles 16,9 NKJV)
The heart matters to God. It matters that we consider His Word as the ultimate authority for our lives because we honor Him from the bottom of our hearts. It matters that we are willing to obey even though we may not understand the reason for everything. It matters that we rejoice at what makes God smile, that we feel what breaks His heart.
You see, God is alive. He is not a static being, motionless and emotionless. He speaks, He hears, He works, He has a will, He has plans, He can be pleased (Hebrews 11,6), He can be grieved (Ephesians 4,30), etc. This is why the believer should never be ‘disconnected’ with God. A relationship with God is a real thing. It’s a love affair.
“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.” Psalms 91,14 (NKJV) |
The ‘disconnect’ can happen while aware of it or unaware. This is why it is so important to pray.
Pray; not because it has to be done, not to tick a box.
Prepare your heart for prayer. Pray without distractions. Put the phone in silence if necessary. Enter the “zone”! The Holy Spirit will speak to you. He will show what’s been happening, where you went wrong, what you need to do, etc. Let Him lead you.
When you don’t feel like praying (it happens), ask God to help you. Ask for His grace, His strength. Even if it’s a sigh, you’ll be expressing something to Him. If you don’t find the words, call on His name: Jesus.
Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind'. This is the first and great commandment." Matthew 22,37-38 (NKJV) |
