How will these things be?

Leila Hakizimana

That was Mary’s, mother of Jesus, question.

God had sent the angel Gabriel to announce her this:

“Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,  and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end"

How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” (Luke 1,30-34 NIV)

It’s okay to ask God questions. God can handle whatever we may bring to Him.

In fact, He says in Isaiah 1,18: “Come now, and let us reason together..”

Asking God questions is different from questioning God.

Mary was not resisting the angel’s message but she could simply not conceive in her mind how she would give birth without a man. And the angel gave her an answer: “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. (Luke 1,35 NIV)

“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” (Luke 1,38 NIV). And, indeed it word was fulfilled.

God has a plan. He has planned everything.

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Jeremiah 29,11 (KJV)

The New International version says: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

As human being we can worry about life, consciously or unconsciously. But Jesus said “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?” (Luke 12,25-26 NIV). So what should we do then?

“My son, give me your heart, And let your eyes observe my ways.” Proverbs 23,26 (NKJV)

By giving our hearts to God, our eyes will see His ways.

To give your heart to God means to let God be your fondest pleasure, your greatest desire. It comes progressively. The more you know Him, the more you’ll want to know Him.

2 Corinthians 3,16 talks about how when someone turns to the Lord the veil of the heart is taken away. The Bible will not be hard for you, it will become enjoyable to read.

“Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.” 2 Corinthians 3,16(NIV)

The Lord will show you His ways! He will show you His plans and His purpose for your life!

He will show you your part in the grand scheme of things! Believe it!

“Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the Lord all the day long. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.” Proverb 23,17-18 (KJV)

Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord. There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off. (NIV)
