“And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3,16-17 (KJV) |
The passage above is one that reveals the three persons of God. We see Jesus, we see the Spirit of God and we see the Father who says "This is my beloved Son..."
God is one (there is only one God). However, God is in three persons: The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Three in one.
The three can be seen since the beginning, from Genesis and throughout the Bible.“ And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…” (Genesis 1,26 KJV)
In Matthew 3,16-17, we see unity in this trinity. The Holy Spirit came upon Jesus for Him to start His public ministry, and the Father affirmed His love and approval to the Son just before He started. The Father sent His Son Jesus on earth to save and redeem the world and the Holy Spirit empowered Him on this mission.
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.” John 14,16-17 (NLT) |
In John 14, Jesus is talking to his disciples about the Father and about the Holy Spirit, highlighting that because they’ve seen Him, they’ve seen the Father (Verse 9) and because Jesus was with them, the Holy Spirit was with them also. The three are one (united). Each one has His part/role and they glorify each other.
“This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,” Matthew 6,9 (NIV) |
Jesus urged those who believed in Him to relate with the Father. He emphasized that His Father is also our Father: "go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’ "(John 20,17) and that we should pray to the Father “Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.” (John 16,23)
“The Father” is not a title, but it is who He is. God is a father; a good one, a loving one and a perfect one. Our heart changes when we look to God as a father, OUR father.
Seek to know God as your father. Because He is.
The Father loves you!
He is well pleased in you when you are in His Son Jesus; not because of what you do/did or don’t do/didn't do but because He sees you in Jesus, because of Jesus and what He did on the cross.
